Book Club Discussions

During our first Book Club time, students chose between The Mitten  or Where the Wild Things Are.  They had all read or listened to the story prior to Book Club time.  Each student marked two pages in their book that they wanted to share with the group during Book Club time.  All students had wonderful ideas and thoughts about their book to contribute to the group discussion.

BIG Friend/Little Friend: Humpty Dumpty

BIG Friend/Little Friend teams were challenged to create a design for "Humpty Dumpty"(uncooked egg) so that when he falls off the wall he will not crack.  Each team had the same materials: 2 plastic straws, 4 cotton balls and 40 inches of masking tape.  We stacked cardboard brick blocks and gave Humpty Dumpty a gentle push off the wall.  Some teams made it to 10 blocks high before Humpty Dumpty cracked!!

Poetry:Earth Poems

We wrote Acrostic Poems about the Earth.  Students had great ideas for each letter of the word Earth to describe it.

Poetry: Mud Poems

 MUD, MUD, We love MUD!!

We found mud near the playground (surprise, surprise) and painted mud pictures!

After painting with mud, we wrote  lists poems describing mud!

Informative Writing

Our Informative Writing  about animals in Mossalamoo is finished.  They are hanging outside our classroom.  Please feel free to read through them.  We each designed our own covers.
Inside you will find a diagram of our animal with the parts labeled.
We read non-fiction text and watched Discovery videos about our animals.   We created a Bibliography listing the sources we used.
We wrote a Title, Topic sentence, three facts and a concluding sentence about our animals.

We learned a lot about our animals.
