Papa's Pumpkin Patch

We had a great trip to Papa's Pumpkin Patch.  We each picked out our own special pumpkin to bring home.  Thank you to our super, amazing PTO for purchasing the pumpkins for us.

After reading "The Little Old Lady who wasn't Afraid of Anything", we acted out the story with props and used those props to create a scarecrow.  So much fun!

A super, special. thank you to Papa and Nana (Dan and Laurie Novotny) for welcoming us to their Pumpkin Patch.

Game Warden Visit

Vermont State Game Warden Abigail Serra stopped by school this afternoon to teach us more about skunks.    She had a pelt, a skeleton and rubber imprints of a skunks footprint.
She  also had a surprise to share with us.  To quoter one student: "A real live, dead skunk".  This skunk had been hit by a car in Pittsford this morning.

So we got a up close look at a skunk!!

The skunk pelt was so soft and fun to touch.

We were surprised at how small the skunk's skull was.

Skunk Dioramas

Something was digging in the grass in our Outdoor Classroom.  What could it be?  Mrs. Whitaker set up her game camera to see if we could find out what it was.  The first night nothing appeared.  The second night we saw a fluffy tail in the pictures.  The third night we discovered we had 2 different skunks visiting our classroom late at night!!!

We have been learning all about skunks this week.  We made these dioramas showing the skunk's  habitat and created clay figures of skunks.  Ask Kindergarten and 1st graders what they know about skunks!!

Making Apple Pies

We had so much fun making apple pies to take home to our families.

We were learning about why trees are important.  We discovered we could not make an apple pie if there were no apple trees!!

We gave clues to discover which tree part was in the "Mystery Sock".
Hugging trees was SO much fun!

Looking for signs of life in the bark.

More bark rubbings.
Tree observations.
Picnic lunch.  To quote one student, "This was the best day ever"!!

Explorers: River Exploration

Super, fun day at the Tweed River behind Mrs. Colton's house.
River observations.

Using nets and a minnow bucket to see if we could catch anything in the river!!

Throwing rocks into the river to watch the splash!  Some of us even tried skipping rocks.

Picnic lunch in the field.
Exploring the sand at the river.
X marks the spot for buried treasure.

If we line the path around the village with rocks, will it hold water?
