Winter Recess Fun

Building a snow fort.
Using shovels to make a maze in the snow.  Can you follow the path or is it a dead end?

What do you do when the wind blows the pine cones from the trees.?   You plant a cone garden of course!

Ice Skating Dance Party

Super fun time skating at the rink in Rochester.
We celebrated with a dance party.  Thank you Ms. Pearson for the music!!

100th Day Celebration

Celebrating our 100th Day of Kindergarten and 1st Grade!!

We are all decked out in our 100 day crowns, fruit loop necklaces, glasses and masks!!

Counting out fruit loops in ten-frames to add to our necklaces.

We designed our own 100 day face masks.....so cool.

100 Day Designs

We counted out 100 of specific buckets and used those 100 items to create a design.

I made monster using 100 cubes.
I made a rainbow using 100 dominos.
I made a picture frame with a smile face using 100 tiles.
I made a parade of 100 bears.
I made a tower using 100 cubes.  It was long than me.
I made Native American houses with 100 popsicle sticks.
I made a bee hive with a queen bee using 100 pattern blocks.

Engineering a Light Blocking Structure

We used straws, connectors, paper and masking tape to create light blocking structures.  We wanted our animals to be protected from the hot sun during the morning, noon and evening sun.

Engineering Shade with a Model Tree

The Kindergarten and 1st grade engineers were hard at work again this week.  The task for today was to add paper leaves (sticky notes or cut up paper) to model trees to block as much light as possible from reaching their animal seeking shelter from the hot sun.    After shining the sun (a flashlight) on their trees, students were able to revise their design.

Winter Wellness: Ice Skating

Chilly but fun day of ice skating at the Rochester Ice Rink.  For some of us, this was our first time on skates.

To quote one student: "I didn't have a little bit of fun.  I didn't have a lot a fun.  I had a BLAST!!!!!"
